Junior Software Developer

Posted 14 hours ago Verified listing

Job description

First or second role on a TypeScript team. Hybrid, two days in the office.

We are looking for a Junior Software Developer in Leeds. You do not need to arrive knowing everything; you do need to care about the standard of what you hand over, and be willing to ask when something is not clear.

About the role

  • Build and ship features across the stack, from the data model to what the user actually sees.
  • Review colleagues’ pull requests and have yours reviewed — we work in small, readable changes.
  • Write the tests that let us deploy on a Friday without anybody losing sleep.
  • Take part in planning and estimation, and push back when scope and time do not agree.
  • Share on-call in a light rotation, with time back for anything out of hours.

What we are looking for

  • Solid commercial experience and the judgement to know when the simple solution is the right one.
  • The judgement to work unsupervised, and the sense to ask when something is not clear.
  • A careful approach to safety and to your own standard of work.
  • Willingness to learn the parts of this you have not done before.
  • Reliability — the team notices when somebody turns up when they said they would.

What we offer

  • 28 days holiday including bank holidays, rising with service.
  • Company pension, and life cover after your first year.
  • A rota published well in advance, so you can plan around it.
  • Staff discount, a cycle-to-work scheme and an employee assistance line.
  • Genuine progression — most of our supervisors started in this role.

How to apply

Use the apply button on this page and send us a CV. A covering note is welcome but not required — if you would rather tell us in a paragraph why Junior Software Developer is of interest, that is just as useful. We read every application and reply either way.

We are an equal opportunities employer. If you need any adjustment to the process, say so when you apply and we will arrange it.

FAQ

Do I need experience to apply?

Read the "What we are looking for" list above. If you meet most of it and are willing to learn the rest, apply — we would rather see you than not.

Can I visit before I apply?

Yes. Ring ahead and we will arrange a time to show you round Leeds so you know what you are taking on.

Is there parking or transport nearby?

There is on-site parking, and we are a short walk from the nearest bus route. Ask if you need the details.

What are the hours and the rota?

The pattern is set out at interview and published well in advance. If you have a fixed commitment, tell us early and we will be straight with you about whether it fits.

Do you offer training?

Yes — a proper induction, and funded training towards the qualifications the role needs. Nobody is left to work it out alone.
