Job description
Seasonal maintenance across five public parks. Equipment provided.
An opportunity has come up for a Groundskeeper, Parks based in Exeter. You would be joining a settled team that has grown steadily, and taking on work that matters to the people we serve — with the time and support to do it properly.
About the role
- Maintain grounds, planting and play areas across the site through the seasons.
- Operate and look after machinery safely, with training provided for anything you have not used.
- Carry out inspections and log what needs repair before it becomes a hazard.
- Support events and seasonal work, which occasionally means a weekend.
- Deal with the public courteously — you are the most visible person on site.
What we are looking for
- Practical grounds or maintenance experience, and a full driving licence.
- Clear communication with colleagues, and with customers where the role involves them.
- The judgement to work unsupervised, and the sense to ask when something is not clear.
- A careful approach to safety and to your own standard of work.
- Willingness to learn the parts of this you have not done before.
What we offer
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays, rising with service.
- Company pension, and life cover after your first year.
- A rota published well in advance, so you can plan around it.
- Staff discount, a cycle-to-work scheme and an employee assistance line.
- Genuine progression — most of our supervisors started in this role.

We shortlist within a week of closing and interview the week after. You will hear from us either way — nobody is left wondering.
What happens at the interview?
A conversation with the manager you would report to, about 45 minutes, plus a look round wherever you would be working. No presentations, no puzzles.
Do I need experience to apply?
Read the "What we are looking for" list above. If you meet most of it and are willing to learn the rest, apply — we would rather see you than not.
Can I visit before I apply?
Yes. Ring ahead and we will arrange a time to show you round Exeter so you know what you are taking on.
Is there parking or transport nearby?
There is on-site parking, and we are a short walk from the nearest bus route. Ask if you need the details.
