Job description

Setting and running mills on a day shift in a clean workshop.

We are looking for a CNC Machine Operator in Sheffield. You do not need to arrive knowing everything; you do need to care about the standard of what you hand over, and be willing to ask when something is not clear.

About the role

  • Set, operate and maintain plant to the production schedule.
  • Inspect output against drawings and tolerances, and quarantine anything that fails.
  • Carry out planned maintenance and first-line fault finding.
  • Keep production and quality records accurately.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement — you are closest to the problem.

What we are looking for

  • A relevant engineering qualification or time served on comparable plant.
  • Willingness to learn the parts of this you have not done before.
  • Reliability — the team notices when somebody turns up when they said they would.
  • Clear communication with colleagues, and with customers where the role involves them.
  • The judgement to work unsupervised, and the sense to ask when something is not clear.

What we offer

  • A permanent contract and a proper induction, not a fortnight of guessing.
  • Paid training and support towards the qualification the role needs.
  • 28 days holiday including bank holidays, rising with service.
  • Company pension, and life cover after your first year.
  • A rota published well in advance, so you can plan around it.

How to apply

Use the apply button on this page and send us a CV. A covering note is welcome but not required — if you would rather tell us in a paragraph why CNC Machine Operator is of interest, that is just as useful. We read every application and reply either way.

We are an equal opportunities employer. If you need any adjustment to the process, say so when you apply and we will arrange it.

FAQ

Do you offer training?

Yes — a proper induction, and funded training towards the qualifications the role needs. Nobody is left to work it out alone.

Can I apply if I need a visa?

Tell us your situation when you apply. We cannot sponsor every role, but we will give you a clear answer rather than leave it unsaid.

How long does the process take?

We shortlist within a week of closing and interview the week after. You will hear from us either way — nobody is left wondering.

What happens at the interview?

A conversation with the manager you would report to, about 45 minutes, plus a look round wherever you would be working. No presentations, no puzzles.

Do I need experience to apply?

Read the "What we are looking for" list above. If you meet most of it and are willing to learn the rest, apply — we would rather see you than not.
